Our postcard from New York has arrived just in time before the fall break. The kids and I spent today's lesson talking about New York. We've talked about the Statue of Liberty, immigration to the USA many years ago, the four seasons New Yorkers experience, and me meeting Ryan's doppelgänger last summer (LOL!). Have an awesome break! |

Our Star Reader of the week is Alice (K-2). Great job in reading (as always), Alice! Keep on being a super reader this year :)
This will be your last book this quarter. Do I hear a "yay"??? I thought so ;) Our Reading Test will be on Thursday because Friday will be a Half Day. Don't stress out about it. Just do your best. You've already done so well this quarter, so I have no doubts that you'll do just fine. Happy Reading! ![]()
Too easy for you? Try reading this book!
After learning about the different colours in a rainbow, the K-2 students and I decided to make our own rainbows using watercolours, baking soda, and vinegar during Active Learning. The kids learned that baking soda and vinegar, when combined, make bubbles - they've really enjoyed watching the bubbles fizz and "explode". We also had a great time mixing the colours together, and learned that primary colours, when combined, make secondary colours, primary colours plus secondary colours equals tertiary colours, and so forth. Pictures of today's lesson will be available on http://www.sbiblog.com later this week! :) Try it at home!
The K-1 students had three vocabulary words units this quarter: Marine Animals, Zoo Animals, and Farm Animals. To help them review the words they've learned over the course of 9-10 weeks, I've created a very simple game on Microsoft Powerpoint.
Instructions: The file name is K-1 Reading Revision Game.pptx You will have to keep the zip file's entire content in order for the audio and picture files to work during the Powerpoint Presentation. Here's an audio recording of the lesson: Examples of game slides: The K-3 students were asked to write a book report about their favourite book this quarter. The kids did a great job with the book reports, and I've had interesting conversations with the kids about why they like certain books. For example, Pang loved reading The Eye Book by Dr. Seuss while Ioan loved Bears on Wheels by Stan and Jan Berenstain. Hilton loves reading What Is In Space? because he's interested in the different planets and galaxies while Pun prefers to read Frozen: Little Snowman, Big Snowman. The kids also presented their book reports to the class, gave reasons why they like reading, and even read their favourite quotes from the books they've chosen. Excellent job, K-3! I'm very proud of you.
