I was watching one of my favourite TED talks this morning. You can watch the talk at: http://www.ted.com/talks/adora_svitak?language=en The speaker, Adora Svitak, has reminded me of the importance of learning from your students. It is really important to be a listener rather than a speaker when you're a teacher. There are many times in which I would find myself learning so much from my students. They might be only 4 years old, but they are wise beyond their years. I feel really blessed to have such wonderful and bright students in my class; this makes teaching them far from boring. |
One of my teaching philosophies is to view children as adults. In doing so, I view their opinions and views on the same level as mine. Their needs for respect and what they view as important are just as valid as mine, and vice versa. After all, human beings all deserve the same level of respect and understanding. By emphasising on the need for mutual respect in the classroom, we can all contribute to a positive learning and teaching environment.
