The K-2 students and I have planted mung beans this week. This activity is meant to help reinforce everything we've learned during Earth Awareness Week. The children and I had a lot of fun talking about nature and environment conservation while we plant our seeds in our cups. The cups are then placed next to the window where the seeds can receive the necessary sunlight. Our classroom jobs this week also include watering our mung bean plants and recording their growth in our Seed Journals. To finish and summarise our lesson, I've read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to the class. The children enjoyed it very much, and I've even heard some say that their beans are magic - oh, my... Although our class's bean plants may not grow to be as tall as Jack's beanstalk, it is always important to help plant the seeds of compassion and commitment to making our Earth a better place in the hearts of our children. |
