I want to share a wonderful project I've done with an After-School English Class student today. Pordee (5) and I have read "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" using stick puppets. After we've read the story, I've asked Pordee to rewrite Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairytale into his own version. Pordee did a stupendous job and we came up with "Goldey and the Three Cheetahs." I've uploaded a typed version of the creative writing project and a voice memo of the writing process. This is a great example of literacy development because the student was able to take what he read and reinterpret the story. He was able to make meaningful connections with the text, and he was then able to create something authentic and original from his own understanding and imagination. |
