December is just around the corner and we will all be having our well-deserved Winter Break very verrryyy soon (yay!). However, just because school's out doesn't mean that we should stop exploring and learning. Having said that, I will be giving out tons of homework during the break so that your child will not have any free time. *pauses for effect* I'm only kidding! Who would give kindergarteners homework during Winter Break? Although...my teachers back when I was in elementary school spared me no mercy. I had to spend every day of my vacation breaks writing reading logs and journals. Not to mention the list of books I had to read before school resumed. Those were the days... Hmmm. | Since I'm already on the nostalgia train to the good old days, I would like to introduce to you my Educational Game Pick of the Week: The Busy World of Richard Scarry's Busytown. I've played the DOS 1993 version when I was in elementary school. Thankfully, an online version of the game is still available. The link to the game is: http://game-oldies.com/play-online/richard-scarry-s-busytown-sega-genesis# NOTE: To make the game easier for your child, you can click on the "Change Controls" button of the game and change the original control button for "Button A" to the Space Bar or the Return/Enter Key. |
One of the K-3 students, Andrew, is particularly fond of the game because he enjoys learning about the different parts of a ship. He was able to build a ship on the computer and learn new vocabulary at the same time. The game also helps kids become more concentrated on assigned tasks, which is definitely an important factor of successful learning.
