My homeroom students and I have conducted a science experiment this week using a bottle of soda and some whole milk. The students were invited to question and hypothesise throughout the experiment. My question for the K-2 students was: What do you think will happen when I pour milk into this bottle of soda pop? Some of the students said that "it [the bottle] will explode" while others said that "bubbles will form." What actually happened is milk curdling, and it's also a good lesson to tie in with our "Rethink Your Drink" project from last week. When you mix milk (proteins) with soda or vinegar (acid), the proteins curdle. |
