I've just remembered that I totally forgot to upload the K-2 Students' creative writing project on The Very Hungry Caterpillar! As a group of 12 students and 1 teacher, we've collaborated on writing our own version of Carle's picture book. We've named our story "The Very Hungry K-2 Class." First, the students and I sat around in a big circle to brainstorm some ideas. Next, I've allowed the children to help me find suitable pictures for the story. Since the children can not write the story yet, I typed while the children helped each other tell the story. |
This project is meant to test the children's comprehension. Since the children were able to retell the story following Carle's original story patterns, they've demonstrated that they understood the story and have managed to identify the authour's writing style and patterns in written text. This learning style is very similar to what they will have to do in the future at higher level English (Reading, Literature) classes in high school and even university. Furthermore, this exercise has helped enhanced the students' digital and reading literacy skills. I'm very proud of what a dozen little scholars have been able to achieve and I look forward to challenging them even further in the future.
