Pre-K and K-1: Letters X and Y
| The Pre-K and K-1 students learned about the letters X and Y this week. The K-1 students also spent a class doing (our version of) Alphabet Gymnastics. The kids were asked to lie, sit, and stretch on the floor while forming the alphabets I've asked them to form. It was a lot of fun but also a lot of strenuous muscle work (for me). |
K-3: Reading
Instead of our usual spelling test this week, I've asked the students to sound out each letter and combine the sounds to form the words. This method is to test if each student knows the proper way to read and is using his/her knowledge of letter sounds to read and spell words. Making sure that they know how to read is crucial for first grade. | |
- Practice sounding out the letters everyday. Make sure that you know your A-Z sounds well!
- Do not be afraid of BIG words. Big words are just a bunch of small words grouped together. Divide the word up into small parts. Sound out the letters in each small part if that makes it easier for you. Just remember: there's nothing that you can't do if you try.
- Play with letters, words, and sounds. Try finding out what happens if you use or take away a letter or two. You might be amazed with what you've learned from your learning process.
- Read even if your teachers or parents don't tell you to. Reading can be a fun activity. Pick a book you like and just read for fun.
K-2: Active Learning
- To develop good teamwork and cooperation.
- To foster strong listening skills by listening and following instructions.
K-2: Fly Away
Our new Sight Words of the Week are: will, fly. |

Happy Reading, everyone! <3
