Our goal of the week is to: Build Strong Literacy. Literacy is the ability to read, view, write, design, speak and listen in a way that allows you to communicate effectively. The power of literacy lies not just in the ability to read and write, but rather in a person’s capacity to apply these skills to effectively connect, interpret and discern the intricacies of the world in which they live. We started the week by reading Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. After reading the story together as a class, the K-2 students worked on their Butterfly colouring-by-numbers worksheet. This activity aids the students in number and colour recognition. |
| The K-2 students also engaged in word building this week. We reviewed our Sight Words (I, Me, Too) and learned new Sight Words (See, A) by using plastic alphabets. The kids were really engaged in this activity and learned how to read and spell their Sight Words easily. Letter of the Week: Bb We learned the /a/ and /b/ sounds using Phonics Movements songs. We also practiced saying the /b/ sound while pumping air into balloons. |
