Major Events for K-2:
- Leader of the Day's Show and Tell: We will have a short Show and Tell presentation every morning by our Leader of the Day. This is a good opportunity for the students to practice their English language skills and to practice sharing with others.
- Kindergarten Pen Pals Postcards Exchange: Our class will be participating in a postcard exchange with 40 other kindergarten classes around the world. We will be sending and receiving postcards from our pen pals throughout the year. This experience will enable our class to learn about the different places and cultures other children their age live in.
- Math and Literacy Workshops: We will be focusing more on independent learning this year by allowing the students to either work in small groups or individually on Math and Language Arts 1-2 times a week. These workshops will consist of tailored worksheets, clip cards, LEGO activities, computer/iPad games, and so forth.
- Hula Dancing: Yes, Hula Dancing. :)
What I Want You to Know:
- I will do my best to make this a positive experience for you and your child. Join me by keeping the lines of communication open. If you have questions about our class procedures or anything related to your child, please contact me.
- Your child is in good hands. Trust me. I know it is hard to send your baby into a classroom all day. I promise I will do my best to keep your child safe, happy, and learning.
- It may be different, but it will be okay. K-2 is not the same as K-1. There are many differences, some big, some small. If you have questions about policies or procedures that are different, please discuss them with me. I will do my best to explain why some policies are different, but sometimes that’s just the way it is and I am just following the rules I have been given.
- Transitions can be tough. Your child may be more tired than usual. He or she may be irritable or emotional while sorting out all of the new experiences and people in our class. Be patient. Some kids may even say they don’t like school. This can happen when kids feel overwhelmed. Listen and be reassuring, but give it time. Don’t immediately assume the classroom/school is a bad fit for your child. More than likely this feeling will pass and your child will be well-adjusted in K-2 in no time.
