Hello, everyone! It's been a busy week in K-2. Here's a recap of what we've done this week.

Our students have been learning about helping our community this week. SBI has collaborated with Home For The Blind With Multiple Disabilities Foundation and our students have donated their secondhand clothes, toys, and books to the less fortunate. We are learning about why it is important to give back to our community.
Our Favourite Book of the Week is Eric Carle's The Grouchy Ladybug. This book is really great for teaching kids about sharing. We discussed alternative ways to handle problems. The K-2 students came up with answers to this question: When things don't go our way, what are some things we can do instead of getting angry or fighting? The responses were great, and the students got really creative. The students made their own ladybugs after our discussion and practiced sharing art materials in the process.
Another activity we've done this week is story sequencing. I laid out picture flashcards from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and had the students take turns to retell the story in their own way to the rest of the class.
NOTE: Most of the students are adjusting nicely into K-2. The rules are a little bit different, lunch time comes a bit later, and the amount of writing (and sitting down) in class is different from K-1. Nevertheless, it is a work in progress and I am sure that all of the K-2 students will be familiar with the schedule, routine, and requirements in no time. :)
Major Events for K-2:
What I Want You to Know:
Pre-K: UPPERCASE lettersThe Pre-K students reviewed their uppercase letters this week. I gave them flashcards and they had to identify all 26 letters individually. K-1: My BearThe K-1 students read My Bear. Our sight words are: My, Bear, Can. The majority of the class is doing a very good job in word identification and reading. However, everyone still needs to practice sounding out their letter sounds. Don't worry. Practice makes perfect! :) K-3: My Favourite ThingsThe K-3 students wrote about their favourite things this week. They also reflected and wrote about their favourite memories at SBI. One more week to go before graduation! K-2: Short and Long VowelsThe K-2 students worked on classifying short and long vowel words this week. They created their own "My Book of Vowels", made play dough vowels, and sorted out long and short vowels during our Vowel Cups activity.
Pre-K: Letter ZThe Pre-K students learned about the letter Z this week. We practiced sounding out the letter Z, identifying it, and naming our letter Z words like "zebra" and "zoo." We completed our Phonics workbooks this week. Great job, everyone! K-1: Farm Friends and Letter ZThe K-1 students read "Farm Friends" this week. Our sight words are: I, See, A. The students also worked on the letter Z during Phonics. K-3: Skills Assessment #4The K-3 students had their final Phonetic Skills Assessment this week. I'm very pleased with the scores this time - all improved! K-2: Look!
